Gwyl Blaser
After years of building ships, SIB's and other things, I have come to really appreciate certain tools. Sandpaper, Dremel type rotary tools, carving gouges etc. But as I get along in years, the one tool that I appreciate more than any other is my magnifying glasses. These are this ones I use. What is your favorite (or can't live without) tool to have in the shop? Gwyl IgorSky, Alex Bellinger and Landlubber Mike
IgorSky
Yes, I am using the similar magnifying glasses also. But the tool that I use most often for many years is a scalpel with interchangeable blades. But in fact, I found that now I am using a lot of different tools Edited June 1, 2015 by IgorSky Gwyl Blaser

Dave Fellingham
The internet. Research is a very important part of our work (to me it's the most important part). A lot of ship bottlers shoot themselves in the foot with only superficial research. I remember what research was like in the pre-internet days 40 years ago. In a year of letter writing, arranging inter-library loans, visiting nearby University libraries, etc. it was next to impossible to find the information that can be collected in an afternoon on the web. Bernard Kelly
Sandpaper is my favourite tool. I spend a lot of time sanding to achieve the exact shape I want. I never throw sandpaper away. When it is worn down to nothing it can be used to burnish paintwork and varnishing before the final coat. Gwyl Blaser and IgorSky

exwafoo
Perhaps not indispensable, but very useful. I have the photo-etch bending tool and very fine saws from this site. I have used the bender on photo-etch fittings for the Langton brig and the saws are very fine indeed. http://www.radubstore.com/ Alan IgorSky
Shipbuilder
Home-made Curve Cutter, using half a razor blade. I would imagine this would be just as useful fror SIBs as large models! I find it indispensable. Bob Gwyl Blaser, John Zuch and Chasseur
Gwyl Blaser
Bob That looks like a great tool. I can see many uses for it. Gwyl
