Shipbuilder
I recently drew up this plan for the tiny topsail schooner Julia. It was a real ship that I had researched. I did not draw it specifically for ship bottlers, but it ocurred to me that it may be suitable for beginners as it is fairly simple, and steered by a tiller rather than a wheel. Shipbuilder
That was the picture that inspired me to research the vessel and draw up the plans. Bob
Sojourner
Thanks, Bob - it's a good looking ship, and would be an interesting project for any modelmaker.
Mike
Interesting image of the Julia - nice looking ship. Given the set of the square top sails and the filling of the remainder of the suit it appears that the wind is from the port quarter. However, the flags are streaming in a manner that indicates she's running into the wind - a head wind
Shipbuilder
I think the wind is meant to be blowing into the port bow (which is why the square yards are braced to starboard) and filling all the sails, and making the flags bow aft, maybe at a bit of an angle to starboard! Sailing on a tack into the wind. Bob
Gwyl Blaser
Nice drawing Bob. She would make a fine SIB. Thanks for sharing this. Gwyl
ARUP
Top'sl schooners are my faves because of their simplicity and speed! I've been searching for a new project and this just may be 'it'! Thanks! Gwyl Blaser
