JerseyCity Frankie
Its a full scale small scale trailarable Brig of some kind with FOLDING MASTS that should resonate with our crowd. Now, what to insert it into? Edited December 23, 2015 by JerseyCity Frankie JesseLee, IgorSky and Chasseur
Shipbuilder
It must be very difficult getting it into the water! It looks like the Marie Sophie! It is probably sailed by one or more people actually aboard it. Would love to see it sail. DSiemens
Seems like I've heard of these type of boats. Made to look like larger ships but small enough for a couple people to sail. There's a name for it but I forget what it is. Good find.
ModelsInBottles
DSiemens I can't help but wonder what the point of this is--or is it just because it looks cool? It's not used as a wartime decoy or something, is it?
Shipbuilder
I would imagine the builder just wanted something out of the ordinary that they could climb aboard and sail themselves. It would have been quite expensive to build, and difficult to store and transport to the water, but afloat, it would have been very impressive. The point is "they wanted to do it!" It undoubtedly gives its owner great pleasure, and exercise, and has fulfilled its purpose! I would love to have something like that, but have not got the space or energy to build one, or even any suitable water to sail one on. Pity we can't see pictures of it afloat. Shipbuilder
Here is a similar sort of thing in action, but I really prefer the one shown above, as it is a merchant ship. DSiemens
I think it's for modelers who want to experience what its like to sail on the real thing but don't have the oportunity. It's also kind of a big rc model.
DSiemens
I finally found what they are called. They're manned ship models. They use them for training because they handle similarly to real ships but don't do as much damage if you hit something.
