Bottleneck Treasures
At what point does one define miniature? Somewhere along the scale the word miniature transforms to lilliputian or itty-bitty. Most of the " tiny " ships I build in bottles measure 2.5mm at the bottleneck, a few in bottles which measure 1.0mm or .039 of an inch. Shipbuilder
Very nice indeed, but where do you get such tiny bottles? Bob
DSiemens
Great question. This forum is more specifically for the non bottled ships. They are considered miniature in the sense that they are smaller than what is generally built by ship modelers. Their scales fall closely in line with traditional ship in bottle building which is why Bottled Ship Builder welcomes them to the forum. Your work is definitely one of a kind but is still in a bottle so it's more in line with the other forum.
Bottleneck Treasures
A friend of mine who is a glassblower sent me 60 miniature bottles. IgorSky
Shipbuilder
They are certainly very nice bottles (and models), but not readily available. I suppose one could use small festoon bulbs instead (about an inch long with a brass cap on each end, and the filament down the middle. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=festoon+bulb&biw=1280&bih=913&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi-nujnssfRAhUDrRoKHU1cAUYQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=u7xsHoZuWTwJ8M%3A Bob Edited January 16, 2017 by Shipbuilder Added link JesseLee
DSiemens
I think the fact that they aren't readily available bottles is what makes them extra special. It's a concept taken to a point that required scratch ships and scratch bottles. Very impressive. Gordon York and JesseLee
