  1. I'm building my grandfather's WWII destroyer, Lyman K Swenson (Sumner class, almost identical to Fletcher class) and I have props that need to be painted. Bronze? Does anyone know what metal the props were made out of? Obviously black and white pics aren't helping me much!
  2. Thanks for posting a pic of you jig Bob. I'll keep that in mind, that's a really great method.
  3. I was thinking of using some screen too. I might try that first. So far everything has been made from scratch on this model and I'd kind of like to keep it that way if possible. Thanks for the recommendation.
  4. Scale works out to 1:750 which is probably close enough. Thanks, I see some railings he's got that should work, but I'm not clear if it's the actual railings or some template sheet I use in order to create railings out of another material. I'm sure that you or others here know the answer. I asked him and should be able to move forward soon. Thanks for the recommendation.
  5. I'm building my grandfather's ship from WWII and need some ideas for building the railing around the deck. USS Lyman K Swenson. Ship is about 6 inches long. Figured you guys could help.
  6. Hey Michael, I'm pretty new to this two, only having completed two scratch builds so far--working on my third now. It's cool to see new people trying out the hobby and you're right--the work showcased on this site can be a heck of an inspiration for guys like us.
  7. Wow stereo images sounds like an awesome idea! Glad you checked out the site, thanks!
  8. DSiemens - thanks for the tip about the bamboo skewers. That's exactly the kind of stuff I came to this site for. I have some in my kitchen actually but the diameter seems too big. I'll see what I can do though--whether it's buy smaller ones (if available) or just sand them down.
  9. Nice to see you buddy. That's a sad story about that ship! 120 control threads seems like an impressive amount! I don't suppose you have a picture do you?
  10. Hi Andrew, glad you're here. 3" would have been too small for my first SIB, but you aren't me and might have better luck! Lord Nelson's got some great advice there.
  11. Awesome ships Sashko. Your level of detail is much greater than mine--so many more sails and much more rigging than I do.
  12. Cool DSiemens, I actually found your blog a few days after I started my own blog and left a comment on your latest post a couple months ago. I really like the small model you made and look forward to trying that myself here pretty soon. Maybe even my next build.
